The correct answer is

Taiga forest

Where does Podzolisation occur?

Podzolisation (also spelt Podsolisation) is a soil-forming process characteristic of cold, humid coniferous (taiga/boreal) forests. Slow decomposition of needle-leaf litter produces strongly acidic humus. Percolating rain leaches iron, aluminium and organic matter from the upper (A/E) horizons and redeposits them in the B horizon, forming the distinctive ashy-grey E horizon that gives Podzols their name (Russian pod zola = 'under the ash').

Why Not the Other Forest Types?

  • Equatorial (tropical rainforest): warm, wet, iron-rich soils undergo laterisation, not podzolisation.
  • Monsoon forest: seasonal wet-dry climate favours laterisation and clay eluviation, not podzol formation.
  • Mediterranean forest: summer-dry, mild-wet-winter climate on brown/reddish Mediterranean soils; podzolisation is absent.

Correct answer: Taiga forest.
