Satapatha Brahmana
Satapatha Brahmana 1.8.1 narrates how Manu protects a small fish, which grows and warns him of a flood. Manu builds a boat and the fish guides it to safety. This version does not explicitly name the fish as Vishnu; the identification with Vishnu’s Matsya incarnation belongs to later tradition.
