The first person to hold the position of Speaker in the Indian Parliament was Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar.

Ghanshyamdas Vishwanath Mavalankar, commonly known as G.V. Mavalankar, holds the distinction of being the first Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India.

He presided over the Constituent Assembly (Legislative) and later the Provisional Parliament before the first general elections established the first Lok Sabha. He served as Speaker from 1946 until his death in 1956.
