A Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) is a type of circuit breaker designed to protect electrical circuits from damage caused by overcurrent or short circuits. It provides a higher degree of protection compared to simpler fuses or miniature circuit breakers.

Understanding MCCB Protection

The primary roles of an MCCB are:

• Overload Protection: Detects when the current flowing through the circuit exceeds its rated limit for an extended period, which can cause overheating and damage. The MCCB trips (opens the circuit) to prevent this.
• Short Circuit Protection: Detects sudden, very high surges of current caused by a short circuit. This protection acts much faster than overload protection to prevent catastrophic damage and potential fires.
