Starch Function in Sizing

• Binding Agent: Starch acts as the principal binding agent. When applied in a paste and dried, it forms a continuous film around the yarn.
• Fiber Consolidation: This film adheres to the yarn's surface and consolidates the protruding fibers, effectively binding them together.
• Strength & Protection: By binding fibers and forming a smooth surface, starch increases the yarn's tensile strength, reduces hairiness, and provides a protective sheath against abrasion during weaving.

While other agents might be added for lubrication or preservation, starch's core function is adhesion and consolidation – making it a binding agent.
