In a circular race on a track of length 2000 m, X and Y start from the same point at the same time in opposite directions at the speeds of 15 km/h and 33 km/h, respectively. After how much time will they meet next?

The correct answer is

400 sec

The relative speed of X and Y when moving in opposite directions is:
Relative speed = (15 + 33) km/h = 48 km/h = (48 × 1000) / 3600 m/s = 40/3 m/s.
Time taken to meet = Total distance / Relative speed = 2000 / (40/3) = (2000 × 3) / 40 = 400 sec.
