i. Teaching – Learning is more than a two-way process.
ii. Teaching is a part of learning.
Out of the following, which one is true for above statements ?
Both i and ii are correct
Modern educational thought treats teaching and learning as a tripolar process rather than a simple exchange between teacher and student. The teacher, the learner and the learning environment or curriculum interact continuously, with feedback flowing among all of them, so the process is richer than a two-way link.
Statement i is therefore correct, because the interaction involves more than two directions of influence. Statement ii is also correct: learning is the broader, lifelong process through which a person changes behaviour, and teaching is only one deliberate means that supports it. Learning can occur without teaching, but teaching has meaning only when it leads to learning, so teaching forms a part of learning.
Calling both statements wrong ignores the accepted tripolar view, and treating only one statement as correct breaks the link between them. Since teaching is a sub-part of the wider learning process and the process itself is multi-directional, both statements hold together.
Hence, Both i and ii are correct.
