How would the water cycle be affected if the condensation process in the atmosphere slowed down significantly?
Cloud formation would decrease, reducing precipitation
In the water cycle, water evaporates from oceans and land, the water vapour rises and cools, and then it condenses into tiny droplets that make up clouds. When these droplets grow large enough, they fall back to the earth as precipitation such as rain or snow.
Condensation is therefore the step that turns water vapour into clouds. If condensation slowed down significantly, fewer clouds would form, and with fewer cloud droplets there would also be less rain and snow, so precipitation would reduce.
Clouds forming more often is the opposite of what slower condensation would cause. Groundwater is recharged by precipitation, so it would not increase when precipitation falls, and evaporation depends on heat from the Sun, not on the rate of condensation, so it would not rise sharply.
Hence, Cloud formation would decrease, reducing precipitation.
