Corporate Social Responsibility is a governance-centric approach to
Public well being
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) means that a business, besides earning profit, accepts responsibility for the impact of its activities on society and the environment. In India, Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 makes CSR spending mandatory for qualifying companies.
It is called governance-centric because it brings companies into the governance network as partners of the State, channelling private resources into education, health, sanitation, environment and rural development listed in Schedule VII of the Act.
The purpose of this approach is the welfare of the public and communities, not the well-being of the corporation itself, and it is not a scheme of decentralisation or de-bureaucratisation of government. CSR is therefore a governance-centric approach to public well being.
Hence, the answer is Public well being.
