A statement is followed by two inferences I and II. You have to decide which of the given inferences, if any, follow from the statement : Statement : We don’t retrieve information or images or words from memory registers. Computers do all of these things but we do not. Inference : (I) We are not as advanced as computers. (II) We are different from computers.
Only inference (II) follows
An inference follows only if it can be drawn directly from the statement without adding outside assumptions or value judgements.
The statement contrasts the way humans and computers handle information: computers retrieve information, images and words from memory registers, but humans do not. This directly shows that humans work differently from computers, so inference (II) follows.
Inference (I) adds a judgement about being ‘advanced’. The statement only describes a difference in method; it says nothing about which is superior, so (I) does not follow. Hence both-follow and none-follows are also ruled out.
Only inference (II) follows option is correct.
