OTET Eligibility 2026 is set by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha. It includes the educational requirements, age limit, and exam-specific qualifications. As per OTET guidelines, candidates aspiring to teach in Classes 1 to 5 (Paper 1) or Classes 6 to 8 (Paper 2) must be be Indian citizens & Odisha residents, are above the age of 21 years,  have passed Class 12 or its equivalent or completed their Graduation (depending on Paper being chosen), and possess relevant diplomas or degrees (D.El.Ed., B.El.Ed., or B.Ed.).

OTET Nationality 2026

OTET 2026 nationality requires candidates to be citizens of India, and additionally must be residents in the state of Odisha. This ensures that candidates belonging to Odisha understand local needs, language, and culture.

OTET Age Limit 2026

OTET 2026 age limit specifies that candidates must be at least 21 years old to apply for the exam. The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, has not mentioned any upper age limit criteria for all categories of candidates. This allows candidates of any age above 21 to appear in OTET 2026.

OTET Educational Qualification 2026

OTET 2026 educational qualifications cover distinct requirements for each Paper 1 (Classes 1 to 5) and Paper 2 (Classes 6 to 8). Candidates must hold specific academic and teacher-training qualifications to apply for OTET 2026, as mentioned below:

For Paper 1/Primary Standard (Classes 1 to 5):

  • Passed Higher Secondary or its equivalent with at least 45% marks plus a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (NTC/D.El.Ed) as per NCTE norms.
  • Passed Higher Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks plus a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
  • Passed Higher Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks plus a 2-year Diploma in Special Education.
  • Completed Graduation and has a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (DEl.Ed.).

For Paper 2/Upper Primary Standard (Classes 6 to 8):

  • Completed Graduation and has a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.).
  • Completed Graduation with at least 50% marks and has a 1-year Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed.).
  • Completed Graduation with at least 45% marks and has a 1-year Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed.) in accordance with the NCTE.
  • Completed Graduation with at least 50% marks and has a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
  • Passed Higher Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks plus a 4-year Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
  • Passed Higher Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks plus a 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.

To be eligible for OTET certificate, a candidate must first have the required educational qualification as prescribed by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha. After appearing in OTET exam 2026, candidates must achieve the minimum qualifying marks for the Paper(s) they have applied for. Following this, BSED will issue OTET certificate.
