NIC Scientist B Exam Pattern 2026

The NIC Scientist B Recruitment Exam 2026 will be conducted in two phases - A written Exam (Objective-Type) and a Final Interview.

NIC Scientist B Written Exam Pattern

  • First, there will be a Computer-based Test (CBT) Test in Online Mode.
  • There will be 120 Questions in MCQ (Multiple-Choice) Format where for every question, there will be 4 options, and out of them, only 1 option is correct.
  • The total duration for the CBT exam is 3 hours (i.e., 180 minutes)
  • The question paper will consist of 65% Questions from the Technical Area and 35% Questions from the Generic Area (like Reasoning, Mathematics, etc.)
  • For every correct answer, you will get 1 mark and there will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
  • The minimum passing percentage to qualify for the written examination will be 50% (For UR and EWS Categories), 40% (For OBC Category), and 30% (For SC, ST, and PWD Categories)

After the written exam, the recruitment agency will declare a merit cut-off for the Interview part. The Cut-Off marks will be based on the no. of students appearing in the exam, the difficulty level of the exam, and the normalization marks.
