Ques: How many years of GATE previous year question papers should candidates solve?
Ans: Candidates should ideally solve at least the previous 5–10 years of GATE question papers. Recent papers are particularly useful for understanding the current question style, while older papers provide additional practice with important concepts and numerical problems.
Ques: Should GATE previous year papers be solved topic-wise or as complete papers?
Ans: During the initial preparation stage, candidates can solve previous year questions topic-wise after completing each chapter. Closer to the examination, complete papers should be attempted in a 3-hour timed environment to improve time management and exam strategy.
Ques: Are questions directly repeated from previous GATE question papers?
Ans: Exact questions are not necessarily repeated, but concepts, formulas and problem-solving approaches may appear again in different forms. Therefore, candidates should focus on understanding the method behind each previous year question rather than memorising its answer.
