HAL Design Trainee and Management Trainee 2026 Question Papers will be available after the Online Selection Test scheduled for September 5 and 6, 2026. Candidates are allotted their individual exam date, shift, reporting time and test centre through the HAL admit card; therefore, there is no single common clock-time shift applicable to every candidate.

HAL DT & MT 2026 Exam Pattern

HAL DT & MT examination is conducted as a computer-based objective test consisting of 160 questions. Candidates are given 2 hours 30 minutes, or 150 minutes, to complete the examination.

The paper contains 20 General Awareness questions, 40 questions from English and Reasoning, and 100 questions from the concerned engineering discipline. Each correct response carries 1 mark, and the reported HAL test scheme does not provide negative marking.

Part Section Questions Marks Weightage
Part I General Awareness 20 20 12.5%
Part II English & Reasoning 40 40 25%
Part III Concerned Engineering Discipline 100 100 62.5%
Total 160 160 100%

HAL DT & MT 2026 Expected Question Paper Analysis

Since the 2026 examination is scheduled for September 5–6, the expected analysis is based on previous HAL Design Trainee and Management Trainee examinations.

Previous HAL DT/MT papers have generally been described as easy to moderate or moderate overall. English has tended to be one of the more manageable parts, while General Awareness and the concerned technical discipline have required stronger subject knowledge.

The technical section is expected to remain the most important part because it contains 100 of the 160 questions. Previous HAL papers have included direct conceptual questions, formula-based problems, technical theory and application-oriented MCQs.

For the previous Design Trainee Electronics paper, areas such as Control Systems, Electronic Devices & Circuits and Analog Electronics received noticeable representation. This observation, however, applies specifically to Electronics and should not be treated as common weightage for Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science or other disciplines.

Calculation-based technical and aptitude questions are likely to take more time than straightforward English or General Awareness questions. As there is no negative marking under the reported test scheme, candidates can consider attempting remaining questions after completing high-confidence responses.

Expected Difficulty Based on Previous HAL Papers

Section Expected Difficulty
General Awareness Moderate
English Easy to Moderate
Reasoning/Aptitude Easy to Moderate
Concerned Engineering Discipline Moderate
Overall Easy to Moderate/Moderate

HAL DT & MT 2026 Section-wise Weightage

The broad section weightage is fixed by the examination pattern.

Section Questions Approx. Weightage Observation
General Awareness 20 12.5% Smallest component
English & Reasoning 40 25% Tests language and aptitude
Concerned Engineering Discipline 100 62.5% Largest and most important section
Total 160 100% 150-minute CBT

The technical discipline contributes 62.5% of the complete paper, making it the primary scoring component.

Exact chapter-wise technical weightage cannot be stated uniformly because HAL conducts discipline-specific papers. Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science and other branches can have substantially different technical-topic distributions.
