IRMS Recruitment Integrated into ESE 2025

The Government of India has made a significant decision to integrate recruitment for the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) into both the Civil Services Examination and the ESE 2025. This change aims to streamline the recruitment process for technical roles within the Indian Railways.

• The Civil Services Examination will handle recruitment for the Traffic, Accounts, and Personnel sub-cadres.
• The ESE 2025 will focus on recruiting candidates for the Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal & Telecommunication, and Stores sub-cadres.

This change was officially implemented when the Indian Railway Management Service (Amendment) Rules, 2024 were released by the Ministry of Railways on October 9, 2024. It marks a major shift in the recruitment process for technical positions in Indian Railways.

Revised Application Window for ESE 2025

Due to the inclusion of IRMS in the ESE recruitment process, UPSC has reopened the application window for ESE 2025. This allows both new candidates and those who have already applied to make necessary changes or updates.

• New Application Window: October 18, 2024 – November 22, 2024
• Correction/Edit Window: November 23, 2024 – November 29, 2024

If you have already submitted your application during the original window (September 18 to October 8, 2024), you do not need to reapply. However, you are allowed to modify your application details during the correction window. If you are a new applicant or need to update your existing application, make sure to do so during these dates.

ESE 2025 Exam Dates: Postponed for Better Preparation

In light of these changes, UPSC has postponed both the Preliminary and Main exams for ESE 2025. The new exam dates are as follows:

• Preliminary Exam: June 8, 2025
• Main Exam: August 10, 2025

The postponement allows candidates additional time to prepare for one of the most competitive engineering exams in India.

On October 18, 2024, UPSC issued an addendum to the official notice for ESE 2025.
