Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET) is a state-level examination conducted by the University of Kashmir. It is conducted once every year to recruit suitable candidates for the designation of Lecturers and Assistant Professors. This examination is conducted for a total of 37 diverse subjects.

SET stands for State Eligibility Test which is conducted by various States of India to test the competency of various applicants.

  • It is intended to enable opportunities as assistant professors and Junior research fellows in Government-run colleges wherein they can work as faculty members.
  • One important point to keep in mind is that an aspirant clearing a particular SET is eligible for fellowship in that particular State only. Applying in other states would require either NET or SET of that particular State.
  • States that conduct their particular SET exam are:
    • Jammu & Kashmir.
    • Maharashtra and Goa.
    • Tamil Nadu.

Before applying for the JKSET 2020, the candidate must carefully align with the eligibility criteria to avoid the rejection of their applications.

The Eligibility norms for JKSET 2020 are:

  • The candidate must have accomplished the UGC examination from a recognized University.
  • The candidate belonging to General Category must possess a Master’s degree with a minimum aggregate of 55 percentile marks while for a candidate of Reserved Category, a relaxation of 5% is given.
  • Candidates who have previously cleared either of SLET/NET/CSIR JRF/ UGC exams need not appear for the JKSET 2020.
  • This exam is not limited to the Jammu and Kashmir residents only. Candidates from any scope of the country can apply.
  • There is no upper age limit placed for this examination.
  • Candidates should apply for that particular subject that they pursued during their Post-Graduation.
  • Candidates in the final year of their Master’s degree are also eligible to apply.

JKSET 2020 Application Form

The candidates filling the JKSET form should keep in mind, the following points:

  • The candidates must visit the site of the University of Kashmir for regular updates about important notices.
  • While filling the application form, candidates are required to have an email address and a mobile number. Personal and professional details should be accurate.
  • They should have scanned images of their signature and a passport-sized photograph as they would be required to upload them while filling out the application form.
  • While opting for the subject in the application form, candidates should opt for that particular subject that they are pursuing a Master’s Degree in and choose the exam center best suited for their convenience.
  • Failure in the submission of application fees would result in rejection of the application.
  • The images to be uploaded should be of either JPG/JPEG/PNG format with a maximum size of 500kb.

JKSET 2020 Exam Pattern

  • English is the medium of language in which an exam is conducted.
  • JK SET comprises three papers namely- Paper I, Paper-II, and Paper III.
  • All the questions in the exam are multiple-choice based questions.
  • The questions in each paper carry 2 marks.
  • The duration and quantity of questions in each paper are mentioned below:

  • Paper I consists of 60 questions out of which 50 are to be attempted.
  • Paper-II 7 III consists of 50 & 75 questions respectively, all of which are compulsory.
  • There is no negative marking for any of the questions in the Papers.
  • The mode of conduction for JKSET is offline only.
  • The syllabus for each paper varies for the particular subject that the candidate opts for.

  • In all, there are 37 subjects and 1 general paper to choose from. The questions are entirely based upon the relevance of the subject.

JKSET 2020- Cut-off for different categories

  • For candidates belonging to General Category, the minimum marks required for considering him/her for eligibility for Assistant Professor are 40% in each of Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III.
  • For candidates belonging to ST/OBC/SC/PWD Category, the minimum marks required for considering him/her for eligibility for Assistant Professor are 35% in each of Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III. This is due to a relaxation of 5% provided for these categories.

JKSET 2020 Selection Process

The selection of ideal candidates through JKSET involves the following steps:

  • JK SET application form: The candidates are primarily required to fill the application form of JKSET available on the University’s official website.
  • JK SET Admit Card: The candidates successfully filling the application form will be assigned an admit card which can be downloaded from the official site.
  • JK SET Exam: Candidates are required to appear for the JKSET examination at their allotted exam center. The SET consists of three papers, all of which are mandatory to be successfully cleared to be eligible for the desired designation.
  • JK SET Result: The results of the JKSET annual exam are declared on the official website of the exam. Candidates who accomplish all three Papers are officially eligible for applying for the designation of Assistant Professor in colleges and universities of Jammu & Kashmir.

JKSET 2020 Counseling

  • Once the results of JKSET are declared, the candidates securing the examination are eligible to appear for the counseling.
  • Candidates should carry all the necessary documents like educational degrees, address proof, valid ID proof, etc. which will be required as a part of the document verification process.
  • Candidates are mandated to be present at the dates assigned to them for counseling.
  • Failing to do so would result in rejection on the merit list.

FAQs

Ques. Are SET and NET similar?

Ans. No, both of them are different as NET(National Eligibility Test) is conducted to offer lectureship posts in any university or college across the country. Besides this, candidates wanting to pursue the research field are required to appear for this particular exam. A Junior Research Fellowship is provided to candidates securing the exam.

On the other hand SET(State Eligibility Test) makes you eligible for the post of lecturer in that particular state only for which the SET has opted.

Ques. Is the JK SET exam conducted online too?

Ans. No, JKSET is only a pen-paper based online examination and is not conducted online.

Ques. Is there a limit to the number of attempts for JK SET?

Ans. There is no official limit to the number of attempts for this examination.
