Nationality
Candidates do not need to be permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Applicants from any state are eligible to apply for JKSET 2026.
JKSET Educational Qualification 2026
- Educational Qualification
- Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) OR an equivalent grade in a Master’s Degree or equivalent exam from Universities/Institutions recognized by UGC.
- SC/ST/PwD candidates must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) or an equivalent grade.
- Transgender candidates will receive the same relaxation in fee and age (if applicable) as the SC/ST categories.
- Candidates Awaiting Results
- Candidates who have appeared or will appear in their qualifying Master’s degree exam and whose results are awaited may also apply.
- Such candidates will be admitted provisionally and considered eligible for Assistant Professor only after passing their Master’s degree with the required marks (55% or 50% for SC/ST/PwD).
- They must complete their P.G. degree within two years from the date of SET result, failing which they will be disqualified.
- Ph.D. Degree Holders: Those whose Master’s level exam was completed by 19th September 1991 shall be eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (i.e., 55% to 50%).

- Candidates must appear in the subject of their Post-Graduation only.
- If the subject is not included in JKSET subject list, they should appear in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR exams.
- Foreign Degrees/Diplomas
- Candidates with post-graduate diplomas/certificates awarded by institutions outside the Indian university system or foreign degrees must obtain an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
- Such candidates qualifying for JKSET/LASET must submit this certificate immediately after the result declaration.
Who are Exempted from Appearing in JKSET?
The following candidates are exempted from appearing in JKSET 2026 exam:
- Those who have already cleared UGC-NET or CSIR-NET (for JRF or Assistant Professor) are not required to appear in JKSET/SET.
- UGC/CSIR JRF Awardees.
- Candidates who have been awarded Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) through UGC or CSIR are exempted.
- Ph.D. Degree Holders (As per UGC 2009 Regulations)
- Candidates who hold a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, are exempted from SET/NET for recruitment and appointment as Assistant Professor in Universities/Colleges.
