Himachal Pradesh Police Constable 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Applying candidates must be the citizen of India.

Academic qualification: Minimum educational qualification required to apply for Himachal Pradesh Police varies according to the post.

Himachal Pradesh Police 2021 Application Process

Application for Himachal Pradesh Police recruitment will be accepted in online as well as offline mode. Candidates can opt for either of the two methods whichever they feel is convenient for them.

Online application

  • Candidates must visit the official website of Himachal Pradesh Police
  • Go to the Notice Board section.
  • A link will be available regarding the recruitment, open it.
  • Click on ‘Apply Online’ button.
  • Fill up the form with all necessary details.
  • Upload scanned image of passport size photograph and signature.
  • Pay application fees.
  • Validate all information provided and click on ‘Submit’, if sure.
  • Print out a copy of the form filled for future reference.

Offline application

  • To apply in offline mode, candidates must visit the website of Himachal Pradesh Police.
  • Check the Notice Board section on the home page.
  • Open the link stating information about the recruitment.
  • Download the application form that will be available along with the advertisement.
  • Print out a copy of the form and fill it up duly.
  • Attach passport size photograph and other necessary documents with the form.
  • The form along with attachments has to be posted (speed post) to the address prescribed by the authority.

Required Documents to Upload

In online mode of application, candidates are required to upload scanned images of their passport size photograph and signature. Same goes for off-line mode of submission; however, the passport size photograph must be attached to the form and signature must be provided manually. Other than these, candidates may be required to attach some documents with the off-line form, like

  • Education certificates
  • Birth Certificate
  • Caste certificate, etc.

Any such requirements will be specified by the authority on the advertisement itself.

Candidates will have to appear for a written test if applying for the posts of Constable and Sub Inspector in HP Police. On qualifying the test, shortlisted candidates will be summoned for personality test and other tests according to the requirement of the respective posts.

In the Written Test,

  • Questions will be of objective type.
  • The question paper will be bilingual – in English and Hindi.
  • The written test for the posts of Constable and SI will be of 90 minutes; there will be no sectional time limit.
  • Total 100 questions will be asked.

The subject – wise syllabus for all the subjects in the Written Test have been given below. Please check the official website for more information.

  • English: Sentence re-arrangement, comprehension from unseen passages, error correction, general grammar, vocabulary, etc.
  • Hindi: Synonyms and antonyms, phrases, grammar, error detection, translation, vocabulary, comprehension.
  • General Awareness: Indian and World History, Geography –World, India and with special reference to Himachal Pradesh, Indian National Movement, Polity and Economy, Current Affairs, Science and Technology.
  • Logical Reasoning: Number and alphabetical series, clocks and calendars, blood relations, number ranking, arithmetical reasoning, mirror images, cubes and dice, coding–decoding, syllogisms, analogies, direction sense, etc.
  • Mathematics & Science: General Science, Number System, HCF & LCM, Profit & Loss, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio and Proportions, Problems on Ages, Average, Percentage, Mixture and Allegations, Data Interpretation.

The Admit card or Call letter will be available online on the official website of Himachal Pradesh Police. Candidates will be able to download their admit cards at least a month before the exam. They should frequently check the website for any developments regarding the same.

How to Download an Admit Card?

  • Go to the Official website.
  • Click on the Admit Card link.
  • Enter login credentials, as specified and submit.
  • Admit cards will be displayed, download and print it out.
  • Save a soft copy of the HP Police Admit Card for future reference.

Himachal Pradesh Police 2021 Selection Process

Selection procedures vary from post to post. We have tried to give a brief idea of the common tests conducted for most posts under Himachal Pradesh Police.

  1. Written Test: Applicants for the posts of Sub Inspector, Constable, Constable Driver, stenographer, Lower Division Assistant, etc. will be appearing for this test if they are eligible.
  2. Physical Standard Test: Candidates will have to undergo this test to ensure they are eligible for the post with respect to the minimum physical standards as have been mentioned earlier in this article under the Eligibility header.
  3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): For this test, they will have to run within a specified time, do high jump, long jump, broad jump.

  • Personality Test: This will be a 15 marks test, to judge candidates on their suitability for the post.
  • Document Verification: Selected candidates will be called for this test. They will have to carry the following documents,

    • Graduation, PG, Degree or Diploma certificates
    • Caste certificate
    • NCC certificates and those of medals won
    • Proof of experience as Home Guard (if applicable)

  • Medical Examination: Candidates are tested on their physical fitness and capability to ensure they can take responsibilities as per the demand of the post.

Cut-off Marks

The cut-off marks for HP Police 2021 Exam will be the first thing to be uploaded after the exams are conducted. Attaining the cut-off marks will determine if the candidate qualifies for final selection to the post he/she has applied for. Factors that are considered for determination of the cut-off marks are:

  • Total number of vacancies
  • Difficulty level of the paper
  • Number of candidates appearing for the exam
  • Previous year cut-off
  • Caste category

Result

The result is declared for the written test, notifying candidates on their score procured in the exam.

Merit List

This list is prepared on the basis of merit in the Written Test to determine which candidates are eligible for further procedures. The final merit list is released considering candidates’ performance in the subsequent rounds.

Vacancy in Himachal Pradesh Police Constable 2021

The total number of vacancies and its break-up among reserved and unreserved categories and also district wise, will be stated on the official advertisement for various posts in Himachal Pradesh Police 2020-21. It will be decided by the Himachal Pradesh Police Recruitment Board.

For the recruitment cycle of 2019-20, 1063 vacancies were declared for the post of Constable in HP Police. 33 vacancies were reported for the post of Sub Inspector for 2018-19 exam.

Career Prospects of HP Police Jobs

After joining as a Constable or ASI/Sub Inspector in Himachal Pradesh Police, candidates also get promotional avenues after a specified time, for instance,

  • Constables, after 5 years of service, can apply for a competitive B-I Test and be promoted as Head Constable.
  • Head Constables can then be promoted as ASI, after 5 years in their service.
  • ASIs can be promoted to Sub Inspector post after they have served for 5 years as ASI (if directly recruited) or 4 years after being promoted to ASI from Head Constable.
  • SIs are then eligible for promotion to the post of Inspector if they have completed 5 years in their service.

All such promotions are granted on the basis of merit and seniority. Vacancies for the posts is also an important factor.
