CSIR NET Life Science 2026 Educational Qualifications
Master’s Degree Holders
- Candidates from the General/Unreserved and General-EWS categories must have at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree or an equivalent examination from a recognized university or institution.
- Candidates belonging to OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender categories must have at least 50% marks (without rounding off).
Result Awaited Candidates
- Students currently pursuing their Master’s degree or those who have appeared in the final year of their qualifying examination can also apply.
- However, they must complete their Master’s degree within the stipulated time after the declaration of the NET result:
- Two years for candidates qualifying for JRF/Assistant Professor.
- One year for candidates qualifying for Ph.D. only.
- If they fail to secure the required percentage within this period, their candidature will be disqualified.
Ph.D. Holders: Candidates who completed their Master’s degree on or before 19 September 1991 are given a 5% relaxation in marks (from 55% to 50%).
Bachelor’s Degree Candidates
- Candidates who have passed a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme with at least 75% marks (or its equivalent grade) are eligible.
- A 5% relaxation is provided for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PwD/EWS candidates.
- Such candidates can qualify for JRF and Ph.D. admission but are not eligible for Assistant Professor positions.
- Those in the final year of their 4-year programme may also apply provisionally, subject to completing their degree within the required time frame.
Foreign Degrees and Diplomas: Candidates holding degrees or diplomas from foreign universities must verify their equivalence with Indian Master’s degrees from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
- The maximum age limit is 30 years.
- Age relaxations:
- Up to 5 years for OBC (NCL), SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender candidates, and women applicants.

- The total relaxation in age cannot exceed 5 years under any circumstance.
