You should be a citizen of India & between the ages of 18 and 23 years to apply online for BSF Recruitment 2026. However, there are certain kinds of relaxations in age that are provided in the age limit for candidates from reserved categories. Along with that, you must have cleared 10+2 or have a bachelor’s degree from any recognized institution to appear in the BSF Recruitment exam. You will have to go through the selection process as per the BSF Recruitment Notification 2026, consisting of a written exam in Phase I followed by Physical training, an Interview, document verification, and a Medical exam in Phase II. You must check the number of vacancies for the desired posts along with post-wise eligibility and other criteria before applying for any of the BSF post.

BSF Eligibility Criteria 2026: Educational Qualification

The required educational qualifications for BSF (for different posts) are given below:

Sub-Inspector (Workshop)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University
  • 3-year Diploma in Mechanical/Marine Automobile Engineering from a recognized University
Constable
  • Matriculation from a recognized board
  • Must have one year of experience in the operation of a Boat below 265 HP
  • Swimmer in deep water (without any aid)
Head Constable (Radio Mechanic)
  • Matriculation from a recognized board
  • Two years ITI training in Radio & Television /Electronics/Computer Operator & Programming Assistant/Data Entry Operator from a reputed Institute
OR
  • 12th pass with Physics & Mathematics Matriculation from a recognized board with 60% aggregate marks in PCM subject
Head Constable RO
  • Matriculation from a recognized board

BSF Eligibility Criteria: For Radio Operator (HC)

For HC (RO) posts, Candidates must have aged 18-23 years. The candidates aspiring for this post must take note that they must have:

  • Matriculation certificate

  • Intermediate passed with PCM along with a diploma in any one of the following
  • Electronics
  • Computer
  • Telecommunications
  • Radio & Television
  • Domestic Appliances Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Candidates must have at least 55% marks in PCM from any recognized University or Diploma in ITI.

BSF Eligibility Criteria for ASI (Radio Mechanics) Posts

There are certain eligibility criteria which are needed to be fulfilled in order to appear for the post. They are:

BSF ASI Age Criteria:

For ASI (RM) post, candidates must have age 18-25 years. Some relaxation in the age limit will be there for the reserved categories

  • SC/ST – 5 years
  • OBC – 3 years
  • J&K Domicile – 5 years
  • Govt. Servants – 5 years
  • Victims of Riot 1984 – 5 years

BSF ASI Physical Criteria:

Candidates must make a note that their height must be 170 cm, chests must be 80 cm and weight must be according to the height (as per medical standards)

BSF ASI Medical Criteria:

Candidates will have to go through the medical test where they must have a distant vision of 6/6 and 6/9 of both eyes (without glasses).

BSF Eligibility Criteria 2026: Number of Attempts

There is no restriction provided on the total number of attempts for the BSF Recruitment Exam. Candidates are allowed to appear as many times in between the provided age limit and as long as they satisfy the other eligibility criteria.
