India’s women’s kabaddi team beat Iran in a close gold-medal match on September 26, 2026, at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium in Tokai, Aichi Prefecture. It was India’s fourth women’s kabaddi gold in Asian Games history. India had topped Group A and beaten Nepal 48-24 in the semifinal.

How the Final Went

India led 22-16 in the first half, but Iran fought back in the second and at one stage cut the gap to a single point at 27-26. Sanju Devi played a key role as India regained control and moved ahead 30-27 and then 32-27. India’s defenders stayed calm in the closing seconds to hold on for the win.

The final was a repeat of the 2018 final, in which Iran had beaten India 27-24.

India’s Women’s Kabaddi Record at the Asian Games

Women’s kabaddi became a medal event at the Asian Games in 2010. India won gold in Guangzhou in 2010 and Incheon in 2014, and silver in Jakarta-Palembang in 2018, where Iran took gold. India returned to the top in Hangzhou in 2022 by beating Chinese Taipei 26-25 in the final. The 2026 gold gives India four golds in five appearances in the event.
