Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on 25 September 2026 that India received its highest ever FDI inflow of USD 94.53 billion in FY 2025-26. Cumulative FDI from FY 2014-15 to FY 2025-26 stood at USD 843 billion. The figures were shared as the Make in India campaign, launched on 25 September 2014, completed 12 years.
The FY26 figure is higher than the gross FDI inflow of USD 81.0 billion in FY 2024-25.
PLI Schemes and Manufacturing
Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have played a significant role in India's manufacturing policy. Till March 31, they had helped achieve:
- Rs 2.40 lakh crore of actual investment
- Rs 23.8 lakh crore of production and sales
- Rs 15.2 lakh crore of exports
- More than 14.6 lakh direct and indirect jobs
Major sectors that benefitted include:
- Electronics and telecom
- Pharmaceuticals
- Medical devices
- Automobiles and auto components
- IT hardware
- Speciality steel
Make in India at 12 Years
The initiative aims to improve manufacturing, investment and innovation in the country. As per a recent PIB Backgrounder, manufacturing capacity has grown in sectors such as electronics, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, steel, railways and defence. Other initiatives supporting manufacturing include NSWS, PLI schemes, PM GatiShakti and India Industrial Land Bank.
Smart Cities and Digital Commerce
The government also plans new greenfield industrial smart cities under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), which would provide infrastructure for industries and investments. Ease of Doing Business measures have aimed at simplifying business regulations and compliances. The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has seen more than 470 crore orders.
