The 2026 Barclays Private Clients Hurun India Most Valuable Family Business List has been released, highlighting the scale of India's leading family-owned business groups. According to the report, the 300 most valuable family businesses in India have a combined valuation of Rs 138 lakh crore (about $1.46 trillion).
This marks a rise of around Rs 30 lakh crore over the last two years, a growth of 27.5% since 2024. The report also notes that these businesses added Rs 4,076 crore in value every day during the period under review.
At this valuation, the combined worth of these family businesses is now comparable to the 18th largest economy in the world, and greater than the economies of countries such as Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Poland and the Netherlands.
The Ambani family, known for Reliance Industries, has taken the top spot on the 2026 Hurun India list, with a business value of Rs 25,82,800 crore.
Reliance's areas of business include energy, telecommunications, retail, financial services, media and entertainment, consumer products, and transportation and logistics.
The Birla family, associated with the Aditya Birla Group, ranks second with a value of Rs 8,13,700 crore.
The Aditya Birla Group has a diverse portfolio spanning metals and mining, cement, financial services, real estate, textiles, retail, telecommunications, jewellery and entertainment.
The Ambani family's business value is more than three times that of the Birla family, marking a wide gap between the first and second positions.
The Jindal family, which owns JSW Steel, is placed third with a value of Rs 8,01,800 crore.
The Bajaj family, with its diversified Bajaj Group, is fourth on the list with a value of Rs 7,70,400 crore.
The Mahindra family, associated with Mahindra & Mahindra, completes the top five with a business value of Rs 5,14,600 crore.
The Agarwal family, whose business is Vedanta, is placed sixth on the list with a value of Rs 4,45,500 crore. Vedanta is a conglomerate with investments across natural resources and industrial businesses.
The Murugappa group, which includes Cholamandalam Investment & Finance, ranks seventh with a value of Rs 3,06,000 crore. Its businesses span finance, automotive and other industries.
The Nadar family, associated with HCL Technologies, is placed eighth with a value of Rs 2,91,300 crore.
The Premji family, associated with Wipro, ranks ninth with a value of Rs 2,72,300 crore.
The Dani, Choksi and Vakil families, associated with Asian Paints, complete the top 10 with a value of Rs 2,48,200 crore.
