The Earthshot Prize 2026 is expected to be held in Mumbai on 16-17 November, making it the prize's first event in India. Founded in 2020 by Prince William, the international environmental initiative aims to find innovative solutions to major ecological problems. The sixth annual Awards Night will be held on 17 November, alongside a summit of environmentalists, investors and businesses.

What Is the Earthshot Prize?

The prize was founded in 2020 by Prince William to find, reward and support solutions that can help restore the planet by 2030. It was inspired by the ambitious Moonshot programme and seeks to encourage practical ecological innovations that can be scaled up.

Every year, fifteen finalists are chosen across five categories. Each category has a winner who receives £1 million to extend or scale up their solution, and every finalist gets access to knowledge, networks and support.

The Five Categories

  • Protect and Restore Nature: protecting ecosystems, conserving biodiversity and restoring degraded environments.
  • Clean Our Air: reducing air pollution.
  • Revive Our Oceans: protecting marine ecosystems and improving the condition of oceans.
  • Build a Waste-Free World: waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
  • Fix Our Climate: reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fighting climate change.

According to the organisation's official information, India has seven finalists, including four winners. Examples of Indian winners:

Mumbai Summit and Awards Night

The multi-day summit will bring together environmental experts, businesses, investors and philanthropists to discuss scaling up environmental solutions that work. The Serum Institute of India is the official sponsor of the 2026 Summit.

Bollywood director Karan Johar will host the Awards Night on 17 November 2026, and the British pop band Take That is part of the performance line-up. Prime Video is the exclusive live streaming partner, and the ceremony is expected to be shown in more than 240 countries and territories in 40 languages.
