Anil Chakravarthy Named Adobe's Next CEO: His Career and Profile

Adobe has picked Anil Chakravarthy as the company's next President and CEO, a significant development at the global software company. His appointment as President and CEO takes effect from December 1, 2026, and he will succeed the company's current CEO, Shantanu Narayen. Along with becoming CEO, Chakravarthy will join Adobe's Board of Directors, while Narayen will move into the role of executive chair of Adobe.

Anil Chakravarthy to Become Adobe CEO

Chakravarthy was chosen by the Board of Directors following a CEO succession process run by a special committee. Frank Calderoni, Adobe's lead independent director, said the Board had made a unanimous decision that Chakravarthy was the right CEO for Adobe's next phase of growth. Narayen, the current CEO, had earlier this year informed the organisation of his plans to step down as CEO, and he will continue working closely with Chakravarthy as executive chair.

Who Is Anil Chakravarthy?

He joined Adobe as an executive vice president and general manager in January 2020 to lead its Digital Experience business. In September of the same year, he took on an additional role overseeing the company's worldwide field operations serving enterprise customers across its product portfolio. Chakravarthy was promoted to president of Digital Experience and worldwide field operations in December 2021, and as a leader he contributed to the growth of Adobe's enterprise customer business and its AI product strategy.

Adobe AI Initiatives Chakravarthy Was Part Of

During his tenure at Adobe, Chakravarthy contributed to building several products that use artificial intelligence, including Adobe CX Enterprise, GenStudio and Brand Visibility. He also worked on expanding Adobe Experience Platform and rolling out innovations such as CX Enterprise Coworker, and led the acquisition and integration of Workfront and Semrush into Adobe's platform.

Before joining Adobe, Chakravarthy was CEO of Informatica, the enterprise cloud data management software company, for four years, having initially joined Informatica in 2013 as executive vice president. Prior to that, he worked at Symantec, VeriSign and McKinsey & Company, giving him a career spanning enterprise software, cloud data management, technology and consulting.

Chakravarthy is an alumnus of the Institute of Technology, Varanasi, India, where he received his Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering. He later pursued higher education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he received his Master of Science and PhD.
