Animism Theory Explained

Animism is the belief that natural objects, phenomena, and the universe itself possess souls or spiritual essence. This includes plants, animals, inanimate objects like rocks and rivers, and even weather phenomena. It suggests a world imbued with spiritual forces.

Edward Tylor's Proposal

The theory that Animism is the oldest form of religion was proposed by the anthropologist Sir Edward Burnett Tylor. In his significant work, "Primitive Culture" (1871), Tylor argued that Animism arose from early humans' attempts to understand fundamental human experiences, such as:
