Question

Which scenario demonstrates a higher power output, assuming the same work is done in each?

RRB Technician 2026 Grade 3 Question Paper (7-Oct-2026) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

Completing the work in a shorter time interval

Power is the rate of doing work: \(P = \frac{W}{t}\), where W is the work done and t is the time taken. Its SI unit is the watt (1 W = 1 J/s).

When the work W is the same in each case, power depends only on the time taken and is inversely proportional to it. So completing the same work in a shorter time gives a higher power output, while spreading it over a longer time gives a lower power output.

Applying more force does not by itself change the power, because the work is fixed and the time is not affected. Using less energy for the same work does not raise the rate of working; power depends on how quickly the work is done, not on the amount of energy used.

Hence, Completing the work in a shorter time interval.
