Energy Measurement Unit for Human Body
The energy needs of the human body are measured using units commonly found in nutrition and physiology.
- Calories: This is the conventional unit for measuring the energy content of food and the energy the human body expends. In nutritional contexts, one Calorie typically represents a kilocalorie (kcal).
- Joule: The Joule (J) is the standard international (SI) unit of energy. While accurate, it's less commonly used for dietary energy than Calories. Note that 1 Calorie is equivalent to approximately 4184 Joules.
- Erg: The erg is a unit of energy within the centimetre-gram-second (CGS) system, equal to 10-7 Joules. It is not used for biological energy measurements.
- Ohm: The Ohm (Ω) measures electrical resistance and is unrelated to biological energy requirements.
Based on standard nutritional and physiological practice, Calories are the accepted unit for measuring human energy requirements.
