Understanding the Term for Present Society

The question asks how people commonly refer to the society we live in today. Let's look at the options provided to determine the most popular and accurate term.

• Past: This term refers to the time before the present. It is used to describe historical periods, not the current time. So, the present society is not called the 'Past'.
• Outdated: This term means something that is no longer modern or in use. It describes things that are no longer relevant or fashionable for the current time. Therefore, this is not the term used for the present society itself.
• Modern: This term refers to the present or recent times. It is often used to describe the current period, characterized by new technologies, ideas, and ways of living that distinguish it from earlier periods. The society of today is widely referred to as the 'Modern society' or living in the 'Modern era'.
• Ancient: This term refers to a period in the very distant past, typically before the Middle Ages. It is used to describe ancient civilizations and times long gone. Clearly, this is not the term for the society we live in now.

Based on the common understanding and usage of these terms, the most popular way to refer to the present society is 'Modern society'.

Thus, the correct option is the one that states 'Modern'.
