Housing for All Scheme: A National Overview

The Housing for All scheme, officially known as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), is a flagship initiative launched by the Indian government. Its primary objective is to provide affordable housing to all eligible urban and rural households across the country.

Housing Target by 2022

Specifically, the Indian government had set a target of building 50 lakh (which is equivalent to 5 million) houses by the year 2022. Key Components of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

• PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U): This component focuses on providing housing solutions for eligible beneficiaries residing in urban areas. It operates through several verticals, including In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR), Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), and Beneficiary-led Construction/Enhancement (BLC). • PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G): Formerly known as the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), this component is dedicated to addressing the housing needs of the rural population.
