Two equal glasses of same type are respectively 1/3 and 1/4 full of milk. They are then filled up with water and the contents are mixed in a pot. What is the ratio of milk and water in the pot?

Let x be the capacity of milk glass The capacity of first filled glass of milk is 1/3 * x while the capacity of second filled glass of milk will be 1/4*x Now we see that the quantity of water in first and the second glass will be x-x/3 = 2/3x and x-x/4 = 3/4x respectively Now calculating total milk and total water in two glasses: Total milk in two glasses: x/3 + x/4 = 7x/12 Total water in two glasses: 2/3x + 3/4x = 17x/12 Now comparing the ratio of milk and water among two glasses as: 7x/12 : 17x/12 which on solving results 7:17
