World Happiness Report 2025: Identifying the Happiest Nation
The World Happiness Report is an annual publication, released by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network on the International Day of Happiness (20 March), that ranks countries based on factors contributing to happiness and well-being. These factors include social support, income, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.
According to the World Happiness Report, 2025:
- Finland was ranked the happiest country in the world.
- This marked the eighth consecutive year that Finland topped the rankings (since 2018).
- The other Nordic countries also ranked high — Denmark (2nd), Iceland (3rd), and Sweden (4th).
The report attributes the consistent dominance of Nordic countries to strong social safety nets, high levels of trust, low corruption and effective governance.
Therefore, based on the 2025 report, Finland is the happiest country in the world for the eighth year in a row.
