Common Cause of Acute Otitis Media in Children

The most frequently identified organism causing Acute Otitis Media (AOM) in children is Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a bacterium commonly found in the upper respiratory tract. It is a primary cause of AOM because infections in the nose and throat can spread to the middle ear, especially in children whose Eustachian tubes are shorter and more horizontal.

While other bacteria like *Haemophilus influenzae* and *Moraxella catarrhalis* can also cause AOM, Streptococcus pneumoniae remains the most prevalent pathogen.
