Question

Read the following passage and answer question based on it.

Now what is knowledge ? Is knowledge related to intelligence ? Intelligence uses knowledge, intelligence being the capacity to think clearly, objectively, safely and healthily. Intelligence is a state in which there is no personal emotion involved, no personal opinion, prejudice or inclination. Intelligence is the capacity for direct understanding. I am afraid this is rather difficult, but it is important, it is good for you to exercise your brain. So there is knowledge, which is the past continually being added to, and there is intelligence. Intelligence is the quality of the mind that is very sensitive, very alert, very aware. Intelligence does not hold on to any particular judgement or evaluation, but is capable of thinking very clearly, objectively. Intelligence has no involvement. Are you following? Now, how is this intelligence to be cultivated? What is the capacity of this intelligence? You are living here, being educated in all the various disciplines, in various branches of knowledge. Are you also being educated so that intelligence comes into being at the same time? You cannot think clearly if you are prejudiced, if you have opinions. You cannot think clearly if you are not sensitive; sensitive to nature, sensitive to all the things that are happening around you, sensitive not only to what is happening outside you but also inside you. If you are not sensitive, if you are not aware, you cannot think clearly. Intelligence implies that you see the beauty of the earth, the beauty of the trees, the beauty of the skies, the lovely sunset, the stars, the beauty of subtlety.

The implication of intelligence is:

The correct answer is One can see beauty around

Understanding Intelligence from the Passage

The question asks about the implication of intelligence based on the provided passage. The passage defines intelligence and describes its characteristics. Let's analyze the relevant parts of the passage to understand what it implies about intelligence.

The passage states that intelligence is:

  • The capacity to think clearly, objectively, safely, and healthily.
  • A state free from personal emotion, opinion, prejudice, or inclination.
  • The capacity for direct understanding.
  • A quality of mind that is very sensitive, alert, and aware.
  • Something that does not hold onto judgment or evaluation but thinks clearly and objectively.
  • Having no involvement (personal).

The passage then asks how this intelligence is cultivated and if education helps in its development. It mentions that one cannot think clearly if prejudiced, opinionated, or not sensitive (to nature, surroundings, and inner self).

Finally, the passage concludes with a direct statement about the implication of intelligence:

"Intelligence implies that you see the beauty of the earth, the beauty of the trees, the beauty of the skies, the lovely sunset, the stars, the beauty of subtlety."

Analyzing the Options

Let's look at the given options and see which one aligns with the explicit statement about the implication of intelligence in the passage.

  1. One can see beauty around: The passage explicitly states, "Intelligence implies that you see the beauty of the earth, the beauty of the trees, the beauty of the skies... the beauty of subtlety." This directly matches the implication mentioned in the text.
  2. One can think critically always: The passage mentions that intelligence involves thinking clearly and objectively. While critical thinking is related to clear and objective thinking, the passage uses the word "implies" specifically in relation to seeing beauty, not necessarily critical thinking always. Clear and objective thinking is described as a *capacity* of intelligence, not its *implication* as stated in the final sentence.
  3. One can evaluate the surrounding: The passage mentions that intelligence is being sensitive to what is happening around you. Evaluating the surrounding could be part of being sensitive and aware, but the passage states that intelligence "does not hold on to any particular judgement or evaluation," which contradicts the idea that intelligence primarily implies the capacity to evaluate.
  4. One can judge properly always: The passage explicitly states that intelligence "does not hold on to any particular judgement or evaluation." This directly contradicts the idea that intelligence implies one can judge properly always.

Conclusion on Intelligence Implication

Based on the explicit statement in the final sentence of the passage, the most direct implication of intelligence mentioned is the ability to perceive beauty in the surroundings and in subtlety. While intelligence is described as having other characteristics like clear thinking and sensitivity, the passage uses the term "implies" specifically for seeing beauty.

Therefore, the option that aligns with the passage's direct statement about the implication of intelligence is the one related to seeing beauty.

Revision Table: Key Concepts

Concept Description from Passage Relation to Intelligence
Knowledge The past, continually being added to. Used by intelligence.
Intelligence Capacity to think clearly, objectively, safely, healthily; sensitive, alert, aware state; capacity for direct understanding. Defined by these qualities.
Sensitivity Being aware of nature, surroundings, inner self. Necessary for clear thinking, a quality of intelligence.
Clear Thinking Objective thinking, free from prejudice/opinion. A capacity of intelligence.
Seeing Beauty Perceiving beauty in nature, surroundings, subtlety. The specific implication mentioned in the passage.

Additional Information on Reading Comprehension and Intelligence

Reading comprehension questions often require careful attention to the specific wording used in the passage. In this case, the question asks for the "implication" of intelligence. The passage uses the word "implies" only once, connecting intelligence directly to seeing beauty. Other characteristics like clear thinking or sensitivity are described as capacities or requirements for intelligence, but not its stated implication in the same way.

Developing intelligence, as the passage suggests, involves more than just accumulating knowledge. It requires cultivating qualities like sensitivity, awareness, and objectivity to enable clear thinking and direct understanding. The passage links these qualities to the ability to perceive the world, including its beauty, in a particular way.
