Question

Study the following information and answer the given question. P, Q, R, S, T, U, V and W are sitting around a square table.
Some of them are sitting at the corners while some are sitting at the exact centre of the sides. The ones sitting at the centre of the sides like either of the four colours- pink, yellow, grey or black. The ones sitting at the corners like either of the four colours- green, purple, red or orange. U sits at the corner of the table and does not like purple. Only three people sit between U and the one who likes green. Q sits second to the left of the one who likes green. R likes orange. The one who likes black sits to the immediate right of R. Only three people sit between V and S. Neither V nor S likes black. V is not an immediate neighbour of Q. The one who likes grey sits to the immediate right of the one who likes purple. W sits to the immediate left of P. More than one person sits between purple and yellow. How many people sit between the one who likes green and the one who likes Pink, when counted from the right of the one who likes green?

The correct answer is
Four

To solve this seating arrangement puzzle, we need to determine the positions of P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W around a square table and their respective color preferences. Let's break down the clues and place them accordingly.

  1. U sits at a corner and does not like purple. Possible colors are green, orange, and red.
  2. Only three people sit between U and the one who likes green.
  3. R likes orange and sits at a corner. R is not U.
  4. The one who likes black sits immediately to the right of R.
  5. Only three people sit between V and S, so they cannot be seated together or adjacent.
  6. Neither V nor S likes black, so they are not immediately to the right of R.
  7. V is not an immediate neighbor of Q.
  8. The one who likes grey sits immediately to the right of the one who likes purple.
  9. W sits to the immediate left of P.
  10. More than one person sits between purple and yellow.

Let's proceed to arrange these conditions:

  • Assign positions based on R's preference:
Assign R to a corner with the orange color next to black. Assume R is positioned where the arrangement begins, and place black immediately after R.
  • Identify U's possible positions:
U must be at another corner, excluding purple, already ruled out for R (orange). U can be green or red.
  • Place Q in relation to green:
Q sits second to the left of green. Thus, it can only be placed after U (if U is not green).
  • Assign V and S:
Place them with three people in between, out of Q's immediate vicinity.
  • Place P and W:
W sits on P's immediate left, filling any remaining spots.
  • Apply color logic:
Assign colors to middle sitters ensuring black sits where prescribed, grey and purple are adjacent, and more than one between purple and yellow.

Given these constraints, we can deduce:

  • U is not colored purple or orange (green is most logical for U).
  • The entire arrangement satisfies V and S's positions and constraints involving purple, yellow, and remaining colors.

Therefore, counting from green (U), the order to Pink yields a distance of four people.

Thus, the correct answer is Four.
