- Washing Away: Because the hydrophilic heads are facing outwards and interacting with water, the entire micelle (with the dirt trapped inside) becomes suspended in the water. When the water is drained or rinsed away, the dirt, encapsulated within the micelles, is carried along with it, leaving the clothes clean.
This dual action of attracting dirt (hydrophobic part) and dissolving in water (hydrophilic part) is why soaps and detergents are effective cleaning agents.
