Matijñāna Basis in Jainism
In Jain philosophy, Matijñāna represents the first stage of direct or inferential knowledge. It is a fundamental concept within Jaina epistemology.
Components of Matijñāna
Matijñāna is specifically based on the interaction between:
- Senses: The external sensory organs (like sight, sound, smell, taste, touch).
- Mind: The internal cognitive faculty responsible for processing information received through the senses.
Therefore, Matijñāna arises from sensory perception combined with mental apprehension and understanding.
