Question

Four groups of letters are given in jumbled form in the options. In each of them, a meaningful English word can be made by rearranging the letters. Find the odd one out after making the meaningful words.

The correct answer is

XARBOGE

Unscramble each group: RMOOT gives MOTOR, EGNIEN gives ENGINE, XARBOGE gives GEARBOX and IENBRTU gives TURBINE.

A motor, an engine and a turbine are all prime movers: machines that produce mechanical power by converting energy (electrical, fuel or fluid energy).

A gearbox produces no power of its own; it only transmits power and changes speed and torque between a power source and the load, so it is the odd one out.

Hence, the answer is XARBOGE.
