Question

Find the median of the data 10, 8, 5, 3, 9, 6, 12, 14, 13, 7, 1

The correct answer is

8

Given:
The data is 10, 8, 5, 3, 9, 6, 12, 14, 13, 7, 1
Concept:
First of all, arrange the data in ascending or descending order, then
When N is odd
Median = ((N + 1)/2)-th term
When N is even
Median = Average of the middle terms
Here, N is the number of terms in the data
Calculation:
Data in ascending order
1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14
Now,
N is 11 (odd), so the median is
⇒ (11 + 1)/2
⇒ 12/2
⇒ 6th term
The 6th term of the data is 8.
∴ The median of the data is 8.
