Question

Aman offers a discount scheme, such that on buying 12 rough copies, get x rough copies for free. If the equivalent percentage discount is 25%, then what is the value of x?

The correct answer is

4

Let the price of 1 rough copy be ₹1. So, price for 12 copies = ₹12.
Now, Aman gives x copies free, so total copies = 12 + x.
Cost per copy = ₹12 ÷ (12 + x)
Given, effective discount = 25%, so buyer pays 75% of price per copy.
So, ₹12 ÷ (12 + x) = 0.75
12 = 0.75 × (12 + x)
12 = 9 + 0.75x
3 = 0.75x ⟹ x = 3 ÷ 0.75 = 4
