TS PGECET Eligibility 2026: Marks, Degree, Age Limit

Shristy Kandwal

Jul 21, 2026

TS PGECET 2026 has moved past the test stage and into admissions, which is exactly when eligibility stops being a formality and starts deciding who keeps a seat. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad conducted TS PGECET 2026 on behalf of the Telangana Council of Higher Education, and the conditions a candidate had to meet while applying are the same ones officials check again during certificate verification. This page sets out who the Convener treats as eligible for the 2026 cycle, covering nationality, state and local status, the qualifying degree for each programme, the minimum marks rule, and the age position, along with the programmes this test does not cover at all.

TS PGECET 2026 Eligibility Highlights

TS PGECET 2026 eligibility highlights pull the confirmed conditions into one view before each rule is taken up in detail below. Every value here is drawn from the General Information document issued by the Convener for this cycle.

TS PGECET Nationality And Local Status 2026

Two separate conditions sit at the top of the eligibility list, and candidates often read them as one. Nationality settles which country a candidate belongs to, while local status settles which part of Telangana a candidate is treated as belonging to for admission purposes. The Convener lists both as mandatory for TS PGECET 2026.

  • The candidate should be of Indian nationality.
  • The candidate should belong to the State of Telangana.
  • The candidate should satisfy the local and non-local status requirements laid down in the regulations of admission, referenced in G.O.Ms.No.153 dated 22-08-2007.

Local status is worked out from where a candidate studied, not from where the family currently lives, so the study certificates submitted at verification carry the weight here. Candidates who studied outside Telangana for part of their schooling are the ones who most often need to read that G.O closely before counselling.

TS PGECET Educational Qualification 2026

Eligibility for the degree depends on the programme a candidate wants, since TS PGECET feeds four different types of courses. The qualifying degree must be in the stream relevant to the programme applied for, which is why an unrelated bachelor's degree does not open every paper.

Programme Entry Qualification
M.E and M.Tech (full time) Bachelor's degree in the relevant engineering or technology stream
M.Pharm (full time) Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy
M.Arch (full time) Bachelor's degree in Architecture
Pharm.D (PB), graduate level B.Pharmacy

Pharm.D (PB) is the odd one out on this list. It is a three year graduate level programme approved by the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi, rather than a post graduate course, and only candidates qualified in TS PGECET 2026 are eligible for admission into it on the basis of merit.

TS PGECET Minimum Marks Requirement 2026

Holding the right degree is not enough on its own, because a marks condition sits on top of it. The Convener requires at least 50 percent marks in the qualifying examination, and 45 percent for candidates belonging to a reserved category.

The rule traces to the AICTE approval process handbook 2024, which sets the criterion for admission to engineering and pharmacy courses as 50 percent marks in group subjects taken together in the qualifying examination, with 45 percent for reserved category candidates. Group subjects taken together is the phrase that matters, since the percentage is computed across the group rather than from a single best subject. The Convener also notes that candidates shall fulfil the eligibility criteria laid down in the relevant GOs at the time of admissions, so the marks position is confirmed against those orders at counselling and not only at the application stage.

TS PGECET Age Limit 2026

Age is one of the most searched TS PGECET eligibility questions and it has a short answer. The Convener prescribes no minimum and no maximum age for TS PGECET 2026, so a candidate who completed the qualifying degree years ago applies on the same footing as one who finished it recently.

Because no age bar exists, no age relaxation table applies to this exam either. Working professionals returning to a PG programme have nothing to claim or prove on age, and the only dated conditions they face are the ones tied to the degree and the marks.

TS PGECET 2026 Test Papers And Stream Matching

TS PGECET 2026 was held across 19 test papers, and the paper a candidate writes has to line up with the qualifying degree and the intended programme. Picking a paper outside the relevant stream is a self inflicted eligibility problem, since the rank earned is tied to that paper.

How GATE Qualified Candidates Affect TS PGECET 2026 Admissions

Being eligible for TS PGECET 2026 and getting a seat through it are two different things, and the gap between them is GATE. Preference is given to GATE qualified candidates for admission to PG professional programmes in the institutions and colleges of Telangana. Only after GATE qualified candidates are exhausted are the remaining vacant seats filled with candidates who secured ranks in TS PGECET 2026, in merit order.

A TS PGECET rank therefore competes for what is left rather than for the full seat matrix in a given branch. For popular branches this changes how a candidate should read a rank, and it explains why two candidates with similar ranks in different streams can end up with very different outcomes.

Programmes TS PGECET 2026 Does Not Cover

One exclusion catches candidates by surprise every cycle. All PG programmes of part-time and sponsored courses do not come under the purview of TS PGECET 2026, so a candidate targeting those routes is not made eligible for them by this test, whatever rank the merit list shows.

Admission to PG professional courses runs on a separate notification issued by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad, as per the admission policy. Eligibility for the entrance test and eligibility for admission are announced through different documents, and candidates are expected to track both.

Why TS PGECET Eligibility Matters At Counselling

Eligibility is verified twice, once when a candidate applies and again when certificates are checked during admissions, and the second check is the one that removes people. TS PGECET 2026 counselling for M.E, M.Tech and M.Arch programmes opened with online registration and certificate upload from July 2 to July 9, 2026, followed by web options entry from July 13 to July 15, 2026. Pharmacy programme registration and certificate upload run from July 26 to July 31, 2026.

A rank card confirms performance in the test, not entitlement to a seat. Where the certificates do not support the local status claimed or the marks fall short of the required percentage, the claim fails at verification rather than at the exam, and by then most other options for that academic year have closed. Candidates carrying a study certificate gap or a percentage that sits near the boundary are best served by settling the position before their verification slot rather than during it.

TS PGECET 2026 Eligibility Important Points

  • The Convener does not cap the number of attempts, so a candidate may appear in TS PGECET in successive years.
  • TS PGECET 2026 was conducted in two regions, Hyderabad and Warangal.
  • Qualifying in the test does not by itself confirm admission, which stays subject to certificate verification and the admission GOs in force.
  • Reserved category status affects the minimum marks required, so the category claimed in the application has to be supported at verification.

TS PGECET 2026 Eligibility FAQs

Ques: Is there any age limit for TS PGECET 2026?

Ans: No. The Convener prescribes neither a minimum nor a maximum age for TS PGECET 2026, and since no age bar exists, no age relaxation applies to any category.

Ques: Can a candidate from Andhra Pradesh apply for TS PGECET 2026?

Ans: General Information issued by the Convener states that the candidate should belong to the State of Telangana and should satisfy the local and non-local status requirements referenced in G.O.Ms.No.153 dated 22-08-2007. Non-local candidates are handled under that G.O rather than by a blanket bar, so the study certificates decide the outcome at verification.

Ques: What percentage of marks is needed to be eligible for TS PGECET 2026?

Ans: At least 50 percent marks in the qualifying examination, and 45 percent for candidates belonging to a reserved category. The percentage is counted on group subjects taken together, following the AICTE approval process handbook 2024.

Ques: Do GATE qualified candidates get an advantage over TS PGECET rank holders?

Ans: Yes. Preference is given to GATE qualified candidates for PG professional programmes in Telangana institutions, and TS PGECET rank holders are considered in merit order for the seats that remain after GATE qualified candidates are exhausted.

Ques: Is TS PGECET valid for part-time M.Tech admission?

Ans: No. All PG programmes of part-time and sponsored courses fall outside the purview of TS PGECET 2026, so a rank in this test does not apply to those seats.

Ques: Who is eligible for the graduate level Pharm.D (PB) course through TS PGECET 2026?

Ans: Candidates with B.Pharmacy as the entry qualification. Pharm.D (PB) is a three year graduate level programme approved by the Pharmacy Council of India, and only candidates qualified in TS PGECET 2026 are eligible for admission into it on merit.
