MET 2026 answer key works a little differently from most entrance exams, since Manipal Academy of Higher Education runs the test on a computer and shows each candidate a score right after they submit it. Candidates who sat the MET Phase 2 exam on May 23 and May 24, 2026 still got a provisional key and a short window to raise an objection this cycle. This page covers the release dates, the download steps, the negative marking rule, and why the final rank uses more than just this score.
The table below lists the main dates and numbers for this cycle.

MET is a computer based test, and the computer marks it right away.
MET has 60 questions in total, split across four subjects.
| Subject | MCQs | NATs | Total Questions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 10 | 5 | 15 |
| Chemistry | 10 | 5 | 15 |
| Mathematics | 15 | 5 | 20 |
| English | 10 | 0 | 10 |
MCQ stands for Multiple Choice Question, where a candidate picks one option. NAT stands for Numerical Answer Type, where a candidate types in a number instead of choosing from a list.
MET does deduct marks for a wrong answer, but only for one type of question.
| Question Type | Correct | Wrong | Not Answered |
|---|---|---|---|
| MCQ | Plus 4 | Minus 1 | 0 |
| NAT | Plus 4 | 0 | 0 |
A wrong MCQ answer costs 1 mark. A wrong NAT answer costs nothing at all. This difference is easy to miss, so it helps to keep the two question types separate when working out a score.
The full process for Phase 2 ran across a few weeks, in clear stages.
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| MET Phase 2 Exam | May 23 and 24, 2026 |
| Provisional Answer Key | May 30, 2026 |
| Objection Window Closes | June 1, 2026 |
| Result and Merit List | 2nd week of June 2026 |
Phase 1 worked differently. Candidates got their result within two days of that exam, closer to the usual instant scoring pattern for MET.
Getting the key does not need a login. Checking a personal score report does.
The window to raise an objection stayed open for a short time only.
| Particulars | Details |
|---|---|
| Window | Closed June 1, 2026 |
| Fee | Rs 100 per question |
| Refund | Not confirmed clearly in the sources checked for this cycle |
| Payment Mode | Online |
Since MCQs and NATs are scored differently, it helps to count them apart.
For example, 45 correct answers and 10 wrong MCQ answers give 180 marks for the correct ones, minus 10 for the wrong MCQs, for a total of 170 out of 240.
MAHE does not use the MET score alone to decide a candidate's rank.
A few extra facts are worth knowing alongside everything above.
Looking at recent cycles shows how much the process has varied from year to year.
| Year | Exam Date | Result or Score Availability | Answer Key Published |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 (Phase 2) | May 23 to 24 | 2nd week of June | Yes, May 30 |
| 2026 (Phase 1) | April 13 to 14 | April 16 | Not published separately |
| 2025 | May 25 | June 24 | Not confirmed in available sources |
This spread shows why it is hard to predict in advance whether a given MET phase will get a published key. Each phase and each year can go a different way.
Three institutes under the Manipal group take admissions using this one score.
| Institute | Location |
|---|---|
| Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) | Manipal, Karnataka |
| Manipal University Jaipur | Jaipur, Rajasthan |
| Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) | Rangpo, Sikkim |
Each institute and branch sets its own cutoff, so the same MET score can lead to a different outcome depending on which campus a candidate applies to.
Once the merit list is ready, the process moves into counselling.
Ques: Does MET always release an official answer key?
Ans: No, in several past years MAHE has skipped it since the score is shown right after the exam. This cycle's Phase 2 did get a provisional key.
Ques: Is a wrong NAT answer marked the same way as a wrong MCQ answer?
Ans: No, a wrong MCQ answer loses 1 mark, but a wrong NAT answer loses nothing at all.
Ques: Is there a cost to download the MET 2026 answer key?
Ans: No, downloading the key is free. The Rs 100 fee applies only when a candidate formally objects to a specific question.
Ques: If I attempt both Phase 1 and Phase 2, which score counts?
Ans: MAHE usually takes the higher of the two scores, though this should be confirmed against the current official rule.
Ques: Does a good MET score guarantee a good final rank?
Ans: Not on its own. The final rank also depends equally on Class 12 board marks, so the same MET score can lead to different ranks for different candidates.
