UGC NET 2021 is the gateway for higher education as well as jobs for many candidates. Clearing NET exam makes you eligible to hold the job of an assistant professor in any college or university recognized by the government. Along with this, if you clear the cutoff for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), you become eligible for a fixed monthly stipend.

NET is the exam that you need to clear if you have any aspiration of teaching in colleges or universities. It is only if you have your NET clearing certificate that you become eligible to apply for assistant professor jobs if vacancies arise. You can also apply for NET exam if you have dreams of research and higher education beyond postgraduate degrees. We all know how expensive research can get. Research scholars still remain, students, while their peers commence their work life. In this situation, financial independence is a welcome prospect. This is exactly what is promised to you if you can clear NET exam with high marks, that is, if you clear the cutoff announced for Junior Research Fellowship.

You can choose to appear for NET only for the eligibility for ‘Assistant Professor’ if you do not want to continue with research, and your main aim is to qualify for a teaching job. Otherwise, if you want to be eligible for scholarship while doing your research, while filling up the registration form, you can indicate that you would like your score to be considered both for the post of ‘Assistant Professor’ as well as ‘Junior Research Fellowship’. What you get qualified for will depend on your score and the cutoff announced for that year. The cut off for Junior Research Fellowship is always higher than what is required to be eligible for being an Assistant Professor.

UGC NET 2021 exam will consist of two papers, Paper 1 is common to all the candidates and Paper 2 is opted by the candidates from 81 subjects as per their academic background. They are advised to choose the same or very close subject they did their masters in. Both the papers will have to be completed in 3 hours without any break. UGC NET 2021 Syllabus for Paper 1 will test candidates' reasoning, numerical and teaching ability while Paper 2 syllabus will examine their knowledge and expertise in the subject chosen by them.

Candidates have to score 40% marks (35% for reserved candidates) together in Paper 1 and Paper 2 to qualify the exam. Only top 6% qualifers will be eligible for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professorship.
