The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was established in 1935, on 1 April, and the operations of the RBI is governed by the Central Bank of India. The operations of RBI is looked after and controlled by 21 members of the Central Board of Directors. Initially the Central Office of Reserve Bank was established in Calcutta, however, in 1937, the office was permanently shifted to Mumbai. The RBI has overall control on the Indian Government Banking Policies. Though the RBI was privately owned, nonetheless, after the independence 1947, the RBI became nationalised on January 1, 1949. Now, the RBI is entirely owned by the Indian Government and now it is a part of Asian Clearing Union. RBI has a strong contribution to shaping the development strategy of the Indian Government.

Some basic functions of the Reserve Bank of India are as follows:

  • Issues related to the Bank Notes are regulated by RBI
  • Reserve the monetary stability of India and operate the currency.
  • RBI has control on the credit system of India. Not only the credit system, the RBI formulated the framework of the modern monetary policy for meeting the increasingly complex challenge of the Indian Economy.
  • In a nutshell, maintenance of price stability is the basic objective of growth of Indian Economy and the RBI is one of the major concerned bodies of it.

The RBI organises the national level competitive exam, which is organised annually. The RBI will recruit employees for 145 posts of Grade B officers in India. The aspirants will be recruited for DR, DSIM and DEPR in Common SEniority Group (CSG). The RBI Grade B Application Form will be published both in the offline and online mode. There will be three phases Grade B exam and these are Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

Eligibility Criteria of RBI Grade B 2021


  • The candidates should lie between 21 years to 30 years.
  • However, the SC/ ST and OBC candidates will get age relaxation of 5 years and 3 years respectively. On the other hand, the physically handicapped students will also get 10 years relaxation.


  • Indian Citizen
  • The candidates, who are subject of Bhutan and Nepal or Tibetan refugees and are permanently settled in India before 1 January 1962.
  • The Indian originated aspirants who have migrated from Burma, Uganda, Zambia, Zaire, Vietnam or Ethiopia, Malawi, Pakistan, Tanzania, Kenya and have intention of permanently residing in India.

Educational Qualification:

  • Officer in Grade ‘B’ (DR)-(General): To apply for this designation, the aspirants should complete their 10th standards from any renowned organisation or Board and and need to get a minimum 60% score in graduation. On the other hand, SC/ST/PWD candidates will need to get at least 50% marks in graduation.
  • Officer in Grade ‘B’ (DR)-(DPER): The aspirants should have completed their Master degree in Quantitative Economics/ Economics/ Econometrics/ Finance/ Integrate Economics with 55% score in aggregate. Nevertheless, the SC/ST/ PWD candidates will get a relaxation of 5% for applying for this position.
  • Officer in Grade ‘B’ (DR)-(DR)- (DSIM): The aspirants, who have completed their masters degree in Mathematical Economics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Statistics/ Econometrics/ Statistics and Informatics from IIT Kharagpur or completed Applied Statistics and Informatics from IIT Bombay and scored aggregate 55% marks in all semesters, will be eligible to apply for the exam. On the other hand, the minimum required marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates for applying for this post will be 50% in aggregate.
  • If the candidates completed Master’s Degree in Mathematics with 55% aggregate in all semesters or get the same score in PG Diploma in Statistics or in relevant subjects from the recognised organisations, then they can appear for RBI Grade B 2021 exam. Similarly, the minimum required qualifying marks for this entrance test is 50% in aggregate for the SC/ST/PWD students.


  • PG Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) course is jointly offered by IIT Kharagpur, ISI Kolkata and IIM Calcutta and needs to get the general candidates at least 55% score and the SC/ST/PWD candidates at least 50% marks in all semesters.
  • Statistics from ISI with at least 55% score in aggregate in all semesters.

Kindly note it down that the general category students get 6 chances to appear for the exam, while there will be no restrictions for the SC/ST/PWD students.

It can be anticipated that the RBI Grade B Application Form 2021 will be released in the First week of May (tentatively) and it will be ended at the end of May. To fill the RBI Grade B Application Form, the aspirants should go through the following steps:

  • Open the official website of RBI that is www.rbiorg.in and then click the link “Recruitment for the post of Officers in Gr. B (DR) General/DSIM/DEPR”.
  • The aspirants should click the respective links since the Online applications for Gr B (DR), DSIM, DEPR are different.
  • In the next step, the candidates have to click the ‘Click Here for New Registration’ Option. Once you open the link, the aspirants have to provide the detailed information such as name, Email Id and Contact Details.
  • Now, the aspirants will get a registration number and password, which will be received by the students at their registered email id and phone number.
  • In the next step, the candidates have to send the other details correctly. Then upload the recent photographs, signature, right and left thumb impression of the aspirants.
  • Once you complete the above mentioned steps, you have to submit the application fees through your Credit Card/ Debit Card, cash cards, mobile wallets, Internet Banking.
  • You are advised to print the ‘e-receipt’ as the evidence of successful application fee payment.
  • At last, you have to click the ‘ SAVE and NEXT’ option before final submission.

The aspirants will have to answer both the objective and subjective type questions through online mode. There will be three papers with 100 marks in the phase 2 exam. The duration of time will be 1.5 hours.

Both for the Phase 1 and Phase 2 exam, the RBI Grade B admit card will be published separately. In June, the admit card for Phase 1 exam will be released tentatively. The qualifying candidates from Phase 1 will be able to get the admit card for the phase 2 exam. The aspirants will get detailed information like exam centre, date, time. You are requested to carry the admit card along with the other essential documents to the exam centre, otherwise, you will not get permission to appear in the exam.

Within November 2021, the RBI Grade B Result 2021 will be published. Those aspirants, who will qualify both the Phase 1 and 2 exam, will be eligible to appear for the interview round. The interview will carry 50 marks and the mode of examination will be either in English or in Hindi. The final result will be announced according to the performance of the aspirants in the interview round.
