To give your best in any exam, it is most important to know the pattern of the exam including the number and the type of question asked. We have provided a detailed list of everything required.

Preliminary Examination

  • Total time allotted for Preliminary exam is 60 minutes, that means the duration to attempt each section will be 20 minutes.
  • For every incorrect answer 0.25 marks will be deducted from the final score.
  • It is a qualifying exam i.e. on the basis of this candidate will be allowed to attempt the main examination.

The question paper pattern for the preliminary exam will be in the following format:

Main Examination

  • RBI Main consists of a total of 200 questions.
  • For every correct answer 1 mark is awarded and for incorrect 0.25 will be deducted.

The question paper pattern for the Main exam will be in the following format:

Language Proficiency Test (LPT)

After selection from the main examination, candidates will have to take a language proficiency test (LPT). The test will be conducted in the Official/Local Language of the State concerned (Refer Annex-IV of the official notification released). Candidates not proficient in the Official/Local Language may get disqualified.

The interview almost takes 35 minutes and the major focus is to check the candidate’s capability, general awareness, and confidence.

RBI Assistant Topic-wise Preparation Strategies

Just knowing the exam pattern and the best books won’t help if one doesn’t know how to prepare for the exam. Seeing the difficulty level of the exam, it is imperative to prepare in a smart way. Here are all the topic-wise preparation strategies that the students must be aware of.

General Awareness

  • This section is part of the Mains paper and contains 40 questions of 1mark each (total 40 marks).
  • This section does not require any strategy or trick and is one of the easiest to score marks.
  • Applying candidates need to be aware of all the general, banking and economic events happening at the national and international level.
  • Reading the newspaper, following news on television and social media everyday is enough for this section.

Reasoning

  • This requires sharp analytical and logical skills.
  • It is a part of both Prelims and Mains.
  • Prelims contains 35 questions of 1 mark each.
  • Mains have 40 questions of 1 mark each.
  • The approach should be to practice this section is to practise everyday and revise everything studied regularly.

Quantitative Aptitude

  • There are 35 marks questions of 1 mark each from this section in Prelims.
  • This portion has 40 questions of total 40 marks in Mains.
  • This section is all about real life calculations and the student needs to be good in numbers for this.
  • The best strategy is to by heart and revise all the basic theories and formulas, and practice as much as possible.

English Language

  • There are 30 questions under this section of 1 mark each in Prelims.
  • Mains have 40 questions of 1 mark each from this topic.
  • This section focuses on vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, grammar, error-detection, cloze test, para-jumbles, idioms, phrases, reading comprehension, fill in the blanks, etc.
  • For this section, the students need to develop a habit of reading every day. This helps with vocabulary as well as grammar and syntax.
  • One must go through all the basic grammar rules and learn new words and practice them in everyday conversation and writing.

It is most essential that the students finish their syllabus as soon as possible and start solving the mock tests, practice papers and previous years’ test papers as much as possible.
