The preliminary exam is segmented into two papers, both are objective type papers with four options given. This is a screening test only and based on the marks achieved in this exam, test takers will be qualified for the next level of selection which is the Main Examination.

Candidates who scored good marks in both the exams will be invited to attend an interview. The total weightage of the interview round is 150, the score obtained in the interview and the ones obtained in the written exam will be combined to prepare the final merit list. No candidate will be invited to appear in the interview in case he/she scores less than 45% marks in all the papers. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes’ category candidates get 5% relaxation in the overall marks, which includes a minimum of 25% marks in each paper.
