UPSC Aspirants in Mizoram to Receive Full Scholarship from State Government, Read Details

October 14, 2020: Mizoram Government announced on October 13 that UPSC aspirants in the state will be provided full scholarship. 

During an official meet, helmed by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, the State government decided to collaborate with Delhi coaching institutes in order to provide facilities to students who are interested in joining civil services and for those wishing to appear for the UPSC examination. 

An entrance exam will be conducted to select eligible students for full Scholarship. Details such as examination dates and criteria will be announced soon by the authority. 

In the meeting, officials from different departments were presented from different departments such as Education, Labour Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Planning and Finance, and Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC).

As per the official’s statement, the full scholarship will be provided to candidates who are planning to join civil services. The government will be providing coaching classes in Delhi, and help the students to meet their expenses for preparing for the Prelims and Mains examination. 

Since 2000, a total of 5 students managed to clear the UPSC examination from Mizoram state.

The number of students participating in the central services entrance examination has been declining constantly. To counter the situation, efforts need to be made from the government, stated the Chief Minister during the meeting. 

According to the Chief Minister, Zoramthanga’s statement, the government will take the possible steps in order to assist students. He also requested for concentrated efforts from officials to motivate the students to compete for the state examination. 

Mizoram State Government is also making constant efforts in order to help UPSC candidates. The efforts have been made to help Candidates join the commercial banks and corporations with the help of the Mizo Youth Commission (MYC).

Earlier, Mizo Youth Commission helped students by rewarding them with financial help ranging from INR 50,000 to 2 Lakh. The help has been given to students who cleared the various examinations such as UPSC, SSC, and NDA. 

The last candidate to clear the UPSC IAS examination from Mizoram state was an IAS officer named Grace Larindiki Pachuau, who also joined the Tamil Nadu Cadre. In 2014, the daughter of former chief secretary, Pachuah cleared the examination.
