November 09, 2020: A recruitment advertisement has been issued by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) for the post of mechanics where the engineers have been barred from applying. According to the recruitment advertisement issued by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL), engineers have not been allowed to apply for the post of instrument mechanics.
The eligibility criteria for the post requires a diploma in instrumentation and control, IC. A full-time diploma in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering was required for the posts of 111 Vidyut Sahayak/ plant attendant Grade 1, electrical and 66 posts of Vidyut Sahayak/ Plant attendant, mechanical, the eligibility advertised was a full-time diploma in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.

Quoting from the advertisement, “BE/ Btech degree holders being over-qualified need not apply”. Energy minister Saurabh Patel stated that some technical issues were created by recruiting candidates with higher qualifications. In order to avoid this dispute and to protect the interests of the diploma holders, the decision to not let the degree holders apply was made.
Applicants are attracted to government jobs because of the security and high pay provided. However, when the over-qualified candidates apply for the jobs which are below their qualification, the people who are actually suitable for the jobs have to suffer. This was the reason the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited had to take such a step.
