A proposal to set up the National Recruitment Agency has been approved by the Union Cabinet and according to the reports, it is going to replace the functions of Staff Selection Commission, Railway Recruitment Board, and Institute of Banking Personnel. According to Union Minister, Prakash Javdekar, this is going to be beneficial for the job-seeking youths in the country. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, also tweeted that the NRA will be a blessing for young Indians and make the government recruitment process very transparent. This will be made possible by eliminating multiple tests and save time and resources. Check Modi’s Tweet on NRA

There are multiple different recruitment agencies in the country for the government sector. As of now, the NRA is to jointly work with SSC, RRB and IBPS to serve the different recruitment functions. As per the new rules, candidates who are seeking to apply for group B and C posts in the public sector have to qualify the CET exam instead of going through individual exams. All the exams conducted by NRA will be computer-based and all the non-gazetted positions in the public sector will be filled up through the CET exam.

There will be no limitation to the number of times you can attempt the CET exam and the score will be valid for three years after you qualify. Candidates can apply for different posts in the central government based on the CET score now on.

According to Union Minister Jitendra Singh, this decision will help to streamline the recruitment of government officials for Group B and C and simplify the selection process. The concept of the National Recruitment Agency was first proposed during the Union Budget 2020. The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced during the Union Budget presentation for 2020 that NRA will be established as an autonomous body for conducting the common eligibility test for preliminary selection of candidates who are eligible.

The decision of establishing NRA is going to be a very innovative reform that can help to optimize the economic scenario of the country, post COVID-19 and also solve the peak unemployment witnessed due to the pandemic. Such an initiative will not only simplify the selection process and help to fill up government vacancies faster, but also lead to recruitment cost-cutting by streamlining the process.
