The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination for the recruitment and selection of the candidates for the GSI (Geological Survey of India) and Central Water Board. The candidates are selected for the post of Geologist, Geophysicist, and Chemist in Group 'A'. While some of the candidates are selected for the post of Junior Hydrologists in Group 'B'.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination: Main Exam Pattern

The UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Main Examination consist of 3 papers with a maximum of 200 marks and a duration of 3 hours. The Main Examination will have no negative marking as there are only descriptive types of papers and the answers must be given in English only. If a candidate qualifies the Main exam, he is eligible to appear for the Interview/ Personality Test. 

Important Note to the Candidates. 

Candidates who are appearing for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Main Examination should note down the important points which are given below. 

  • Candidates who are applying for the post of Geologist, Geophysicist, and Chemist in Group A are advised to appear for the exam on October 17, 18, 2020 respectively. 
  • Candidates who are applying for the post of Geologist and Junior Hydrologists are required to appear for all the 3 papers of Geology and 1 paper of Hydrology on October 17, 18, 2020. 
  • In case, any candidate doesn't appear for 1 or more papers then their candidature will be rejected and any written exam will not be evaluated.
