February 11, 2021: Recently, the Maharashtra Government has announced that the Maratha candidates from the Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) are now eligible to apply for jobs in the State Energy Department in the EWS reservation category.
It has been notified that the issue of validity reservations for the Marathas in the newly created SEBC quota is still pending before the Supreme Court. This is because a 2018 law provides reservations to the community candidates in the jobs and education sectors.
Nitin Raut, the Energy Minister, said that earlier the government had decided to provide benefits to those candidates from the Economically Weaker Section whose family income is less than INR 8 lakh.
He added that more than 8000 vacancies for various posts in Mahavitaran, the State Power Discom will be filled if this benefit becomes available to the Maratha candidates.
The Sub-Committee cabinet on the Maratha quota headed by the PWD Minister Ashok Chavan said that the Maha Government in December 2020 had given the option to the SEBC candidates to avail of the EWS quota. Through which the Energy department has issued the orders accordingly on Wednesday, he concluded.
